I do like the way inDesign packages the fonts and reads them directly without having to load them in the system, which makes it convenient when someone sends you the working files for a project. Since the production workflow is all PDF now days you really don't need to send any fonts to a printer as they are embedded in the document. I loaded up the entire Adobe font folio with Font Book and never needed to open the app again. Since the introduction of OS X there doesn't seem to be an issue with that anymore. Back then loaded fonts would consume a lot of system resources so you would load and unload them as necessary.
